About International Bridges to Justice
International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) is an international NGO and a global leader in systems change for access to justice, with an impact that spans 20 years. Globally over 1 million children are in detention. Many are arbitrarily detained, tortured and denied access to counsel. Often incarcerated with adults, they face inhumane conditions and are at risk of sexual and predatorial abuse. Poor and alone, they have no legal counsel and nowhere to turn. This is solvable by providing protection to the vulnerable accused,via early access to lawyers in policestations, prisons, and courtrooms.
The Chapter
The IBJ Youth Justice Initiative is an initiative dedicated to improving access to justice across the world by creating a global youth network that will facilitate collaboration on SDG 16 projects. IBJ is seeking exceptional students, passionate about criminal law and human rights who want to work towards IBJ’s mission to end investigative torture and provide access to legal representation to all. There are 5 pillars of a Youth University Chapter:

Commiteee Positions Currently Recruiting:
President
Role Description
- Will be the first point of contact, including between project coordinator and society, and between the student's union and committee members
- Serve a leadership role by ensuring that the society operates within constitution and within regulations
- Call general meetings
- Oversee and guide all decisions taken by committee members, as well as supporting work of other committee members
- Ensure appropriate elections are organised for next year's officers, devising a plan for renewal of the committee
- Take ultimate responsibility and joint responsibility for financial affairs with treasurer
Key Qualities
- Must be organised
- Must have had experience in leadership roles and a strong record of leadership skills
- Relaible and ready to make the required time commitments
- Good listening and negotiation skills
- An ability to delegate tasks where necessary
Requirements
- Interest in international human rights or criminal law
- Open to 2nd and Final Year LLB students and LLM students
