Many enter the legal profession with a desire to fight for social justice. However, while media tropes frequently celebrate the figure of the lone lawyer or individual fighting injustice against the odds, information on the reality of pursing a career in 'social justice law' is harder to come by.
CAJ have teamed up with the Legal Education Foundation to fill this information gap. We are delighted to be joined by the following speakers who all ask and offer answers to a range of questions on getting started as a social justice lawyer, namely: What is the reality of pursuing legal practice with this goal in mind? What are the best ways to set yourself apart as a credible candidate? How can you develop and acquire experience in these challenging areas of law?
Jo Underwood, Solicitor, Head of Strategic Litigation, Shelter;
Oliver Persey, Pupil Barrister, Justice First Fellow, Public Law Project;
Katy Watts, Solicitor, Public Law Project;
Thembi Fakoya-Sales, Trainee Solicitor, Justice First Fellow, Mary Ward Legal Centre; and
Andrew Jackson, Lead Caseworker, Zacchaeus 2000 Trust/South West London Law Centres.
This event is open to all, and will be particularly useful for students thinking about their next steps. We look forward to seeing you there!
