Our strategy
Our Sustainability Strategy sets out our plan to be ever-more active in tackling the global climate emergency whilst deepening our commitment as a leader in environmental and social sustainability.
For 200 years, UCL’s founding principles of academic excellence and innovative research have empowered us to tackle the world’s most pressing issues. In the face of the urgent threats of climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion, that legacy has never been more vital.
As we look to the next 200 years, we will confront these challenges head-on with a combination of bold ambition and scientific precision.
Developed in collaboration with our community and shaped by world-leading research, the UCL Sustainability Strategy: Change Possible (2019-2024) set a bold roadmap for tackling the global climate emergency. This strategy has strengthened our position as a leader in environmental and social sustainability, empowering every member of our community to help co-create a world where people and planet thrive together.
Since 2019, the world has changed significantly. Geopolitical upheaval, extreme weather events, rising global temperatures and rapid technological advances - this is a new era. It demands a new era of sustainability. That’s why we will be launching a new UCL Sustainability Plan (2024-34) this academic year (2024-25), balancing ambition with the accountability needed to make measurable long-term change.
