In 2024/5, UCL had a total of 51,793 students, of which:

25,583 were undergraduates;
20,060 were postgraduate taught students;
6,150 were postgraduate research students.
48% of our students are Home students, 52% overseas.

Students’ Union UCL

Students’ Union UCL is the representative body for UCL students. The union provides services to support students, and runs more than 200 clubs and societies covering a wide range of sporting, cultural and artistic interests. Students’ Union UCL also coordinates opportunities for volunteering in the local community.

Students' Union UCL recently celebrated 130 years since its foundation. It was on 3 June 1893 that UCL's Council approved the formation of the 'Men's Union Society'. This was the first version of a Students' Union at UCL and in September 1893, the first students joined the society, starting a 130-year journey to the students' union we know today.

Students’ Union UCL is led by sabbatical officers and representatives who are elected in a cross-campus ballot every year.

Student voice and representation

Students sit on committees at all levels of the institution, shaping education policy and contributing to decision-making. This includes Council, UCL's governing body, where Students' Union UCL representatives are ex-officio members.

We have created Student Partnership Committee Principles to make sure student engagement and partnership working puts students at the heart of our partnerships.
