Highlights from 2024 include:
- UCL School of Pharmacy Digital Outreach: A digital twin of real-life facilities, the platform enables school pupils from anywhere in the world to visit UCL School of Pharmacy virtually. Using VR headsets, students can interact with staff and scholars and explore digitized labs, broadening access to cutting-edge academic environments. The project won a prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry Horizon Prize for Education in November 2024.
- Laboratory for Molecular Cell Biology (LMCB): In collaboration with the Science Museum for Science Museum Lates, LMCB translated real research data into VR, offering visitors a unique, immersive opportunity to explore the intricacies of brains, cells, and tissues, bridging the gap between scientific research and public understanding.
- Division of Biosciences: Partnering with the UCL Grant Museum of Zoology and Datascape Realities, marine biologists from the Centre for Biodiversity and Environment Research developed a semi-permanent VR installation which reconstructed real-world coral habitats in a museum context. Grant Museum visitors were able to dive into a virtual museum taken over by coral reef ecosystems, showcasing the beauty and fragility of these habitats while promoting climate action.
