Teacher training at UCL was awarded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted across early years, primary, secondary, and further education teacher training, with "high-quality support for trainees” who qualify "exceptionally well prepared to both enjoy and sustain a career in teaching".
Ofsted inspectors carried out their assessment over the course of four days, with a focus on the quality of education and training, as well as leadership and management. The report praised IOE's partnership work with 596 schools, colleges and early years settings across London, which provides enriching classroom placements and valuable professional mentors for student teachers.
They also picked out UCL’s focus on inclusion, with a particular focus on supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, and those who speak English as an additional language. There is also an emphasis on trainees’ well-being both at UCL and at placement schools.
