UCL200 Walking Tour

The tour is free of charge.

The tour lasts for approximately 90 minutes.

The tour begins at the North Lodge Gift Shop on UCL’s Main Quad, Gower St, London WC1E 6AE.

We strongly recommend arriving at least 10 minutes before your scheduled start time to check in. Tours begin promptly, and late arrivals may not be accommodated.

There isn’t a scheduled break, but if you require any accommodations, please let us know in advance through the booking form. A tour buddy will be on hand on the day to support you.

Please note that there is no storage available for personal belongings. Bags larger than A4 size and all suitcases are not permitted on the tour. 

If you are unable to attend the tour, please let us know as soon as possible beforehand by cancelling your ticket on Eventbrite. 

Please note that UCL reserves the right to amend or cancel the tour in the case of unforeseen circumstances. 

We expect demand to be high for these tours, if you’re unable to join please do let us know so that we can make space for additional visitors.

Yes, you are very welcome to amend the date of your booking, and you can do this via Eventbrite by cancelling and rebooking.

The tour route is step free and fully wheelchair accessible. An additional staff member will be present to provide assistance. Please let us know in advance if you have any specific accessibility requirements, so we can support you and share further information.

Yes, mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walking sticks, and other assistive devices are welcome on campus and along the tour route. If you have accessibility requirements, you can let us know through the booking form.

 If you're bringing an assistance dog, please let us know through the booking form.  

Assistance dogs must be clearly identifiable by wearing an appropriate jacket and harness. This helps staff and other attendees recognise their role and ensure a smooth experience for everyone. For more information, refer to UCL's guidance on assistance dogs on campus.

We advise wearing comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing with footwear that you feel comfortable walking in for 90 minutes.

Yes, tours typically run rain or shine, so please dress appropriately. In cases of extreme weather, the organiser will contact you with any changes or cancellations.

You will be led through the full tour by a trained guide. In addition, an extra staff member will be on hand to lead you along the route and ensure you don’t lose your way.  

You will also receive your very own limited edition souvenir map designed especially for the bicentenary.

Please meet at the North Lodge Gift Shop, located in UCL’s Main Quad (Gower Street, London WC1E 6AE). A sign will be displayed outside, and a member of our team will be there to check you in. 

Please note that the tour will only be conducted in English and is not available in other languages.

The majority of the tour will take place outdoors, so please dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes. Towards the end, we will enter the Student Centre and conclude inside the Octagon space in the Wilkins Building, which is close to the starting point.

Photography is permitted during the tour. However, taking images and videos of the guide and supporting staff member is at each individual's discretion.

There are some sections of the tour that involve sensitive content; participants may step away at any time, with tour buddies supporting discreet exits and re‑entry.

The tour will also include discussion of eugenics.

The tour will pass through the UCL Student Centre to view Jeremy Bentham’s Auto‑icon. The Auto-icon consists of Jeremy Bentham's preserved skeleton, dressed in his own clothes, and surmounted by a wax head.

Yes, you are welcome to bring children on the tour, but please be aware of the content warnings.

All attendees must have booked a ticket in advance, so please direct them to book their tickets beforehand. If they do not have a ticket, unfortunately, they will not be permitted to join the tour for safety and capacity reasons.
