WebForum 17 December 2003

Cruciform Building Lecture Theatre 2

This meeting will concentrate on usability in general and will cover user attention and graphics. We'll also be looking at the experience of the Development Office in moving from a primarily print-based workflow to online news coverage.

Programme

Time Talk
2.30 - 3.00 An introduction to usability
Sarah Agarwal (Project Manager (Usability), Internet Developments Group, Institute for Learning and Research Technology, University of Bristol)
3.00 - 3.30 Interaction experiences and focusing users' attention
Dr John McCarthy (Research Fellow, Department of Computer Science)

3.30 - 4.00 TEA

4.00 - 4.30 Compressed quality - graphics for a usable Web
Simon Brown (Director of Media Resources)
4.30 - 5.00 News on the fly – a human drama
Nicholas Tyndale (Head of Communications, Development Office)
Following a pilot period, UCL now has a rolling news and events service integrated with the university's new home page, structure and design. Hear a brief human-interest account of how UCL's small Communications Team tackled new ways of working, without additional resource. Questions and comments are welcome, at the forum or in advance.

Please ensure that you let Rachel Port know if you will be coming and do tell others about WebForum if you think they may be interested.
