Naqada

Petrie and student James Quibell excavated this area with a team of Egyptian workmen led by Ali Suefi. They focused on the predynastic burials (about 2500 years old), they also explored the settlement areas, where the people in the cemetery may have lived.

Over 3,000 graves in total were excavated. This comb was one of the objects found in a burial which held the remains of an adult and six children. The two other figures were amongst the grave goods placed in the burial of a single individual.
