Biography

My association with UCL dates from 1970, when I enrolled as an undergraduate student at the newly established MILARS (Modern and Latin-American Studies) course. I then did my Ph.D. here and became a part-time teacher until 1980, when I joined what was then the North London Polytechnic. I was invited back to UCL in 1999 as Visiting Professor and have remained attached to the Department of Spanish and Latin American studies ever since.

Over the years, I have developed courses in feminist perspectives in literature, women's writing, families in film and fiction, and the construction of Latin American identity through painting, but the work of Borges has always been, and remains, my foremost research and publication interest.
