Surface Network is a generic, natural but rather rigid topological model of smooth surfaces (most commonly two and three dimensions). I focussed primarily on the modelling of terrains as a Surface Network in the thesis, which turned out to be both intellectually stimulating, challenging, and sometimes frustating experience. Overall during the 4 years of research, I was able to contribute novel ideas in generalisation, characterisation, and application of Surface Networks. However, similar to earlier researchers, an automated, robust and topologically consistent algorithm for the generation of Surface Networks eludes me too.
