And note this fortunately rare type of challenge to the guides: From: "Mike Dworetsky" Newsgroups: uk.sci.astronomy Sent: Saturday, February 07, 2004 11:37 AM Subject: Moon Hoax Believers Our regular Friday evening public tours last night included a couple who were apparently ardent Moon Hoax believers, who asked questions of the guides about whether the Apollo landings had been fakes. Most readers here will be familiar with the litany. I guess it was prompted by the guide mentioning that the Radcliffe Telescope had been used for Moon-mapping prior to Apollo. Fortunately our guides are well briefed and well read (bless 'em) and could answer point by point (for a discussion of details see http://www.badastronomy.com ). Darned if after showing them the latest from Mars, one didn't come up to me and point out that one of our postcards featuring an Apollo astronaut saluting a "blowing" flag. He was not fazed when I explained that when the astronauts unfurled the flag it ended up a bit crumpled and they liked the effect that *looked like it was blowing in the wind* so much that they left it like that. Be warned, they are still around out there, so be prepared if you run public venues. Me, I favour the Buzz Aldrin methodology of dealing with it. -- Mike Dworetsky (Remove "pants" spamblock to send e-mail)
