Palm Software

Sometimes people ask me what software that they should get for their nice shiny new palms. Here's a rundown of software that I personally find very useful.

Free Software

Everyone likes it when quality software costs you nothing. Here's some programs I wouldn't be without. In pretty much every case they are at least as good as their commercial rivals.

Metro - Underground & Night Bus Route planner.

Plucker - Offline website viewer, with antialiasing. I use JPluck to actually grab and rewrite pages due it its powerful XSL-based page rewrites, but most people might prefer Sunrise XP which by the same author and easier to use.

PalmFiction - Text file viewer. Supports anti-aliased fonts.

PalmPDF - Excellent PDF viewer.

TCPMP - The Core Pocket Media Player - view video without recompressing.

PInstall - bypass all conduits to instantly install new palm apps.

Paid Software

But sometimes you pay for what you get, and so the commercial software is the best, or sometimes the only, choice.

TomeRaider - Instantly search -huge- information databases. Fancy an offline copy of Wikipedia on your palm. This is what you need. If you have a vanilla wiki, you might be interested in my program to convert it to this format - V2TR.

Resco Backup - Reliable, flexible backup

Netchaser - The first and arguably still the best wireless network finding program. Also consider WiFfi and Wifi-where since some work better on certain devices than others

TomTom - Not without its problems, but still the best GPS/Map software for Palm
