More than a decade of research in chlamydia screening, including evaluation of new diagnostics, feasibility of screening approaches and systematic review of the effectiveness of chlamydia screening has informed European and National (NICE) guidance on chlamydia control and shaped the future direction of the National Chlamydia Screening Programme.
We have conducted the largest prevalence study of Mycoplasma genitalium infection in the United Kingdom. Our findings show that M.genitalium is a relatively common infection affecting 1 in 30 women attending sexual health clinics or taking part in the national chlamydia screening programme in London. Co-infection with chlamydia is low and treating chlamydia alone will have little effect on M.genitalium transmission. Other research has assessed the prevalence and determinants of HIV and STI among male migrants in India.
