Women in Engineering

Other Women's Groups at UCL

UCL Women in Engineering is open to any students or members of staff at UCL who wish to get involved. Our key activity is the Women in Engineering taster day, but we also hope that the diverse selection of people and occupations on this site will broaden people's ideas about what an engineer can be. We do welcome your suggestions for how we can be more useful to the community as well!

However, as a large institution housing a diverse group of students, academics, researchers and other professional staff, UCL also has a number of other women's groups which you may also want to investigate or join. Some of them are listed below; more will be added as we get to know about them.

Student Societies

UCLWE - UCL Student Society of Women Engineers

Supported by the Faculty of Engineering, but run independently by students, for students, this society welcomes all female students at UCL who took (or are taking) engineering subjects as a first degree. They run mentoring programmes, outreach activities, skills sessions and social events as an opportunity to get to know other engineers.

UCL Women in Management

A second student society, this is organised by students on the Management MSc and aims to prepare students to deal with challenges and risks in the workplace, connect them to leaders in the workplace, and help them become successful leaders.

This society will post internship and job opportunities, and bring bring in external speakers from organisations such as ITV, Bloomberg, Barclays, Cambridge, City CASS - and many more! Astrea

UCL employs over 4,000 Professional Services staff - people working at the university who are not in research or teaching roles, such as administrators, technicians and managers. Women in professional services roles represent 20% of the UCL workforce, yet they are under-represented at the more senior grades. Astrea is a network for professional services women which aims to build a network where women can learn from each other; where members can find mentors and role models; where they can talk about issues of common concern and where they can discuss what needs to change to reach 50/50 leadership.

The Women’s Dining Club is informal, friendly and welcoming, with women of varying ages and occupations drawn together by a continuing interest in UCL’s activities and concern for its future. They include UCL alumni, as well as past and present members of UCL staff.

We aim to enable past and present women students and members of staff with varying interests to meet and share experiences at informal dinners; encourage continued interest in UCL and support its activities; and help undergraduate students in financial difficulty.
