The New Pamphleteers

UCL Urban Laboratory's publication series Urban Pamphleteer is part of an exhibition taking place at Milton’s Cottage on the history of radical pamphleteering in the UK.

Urban Pamphleteer has published six issues since 2013, with a seventh due to be launched in July 2018. Each pamphlet confronts key contemporary urban questions from diverse perspectives, with the intention of stimulating debate, and in the process empowering and informing citizens, professionals, researchers, institutions, and policy-makers, with a view to positively shaping change.

The exhibition at Milton's Cottage includes a wide mix of political, cultural and educational pamphlets, with the collection building up over three weeks to encourage a more eclectic exploration of pamphlet publishing today.

Now a museum, Milton's Cottage is the only surviving residence of poet and parliamentarian John Milton - and the place where he completed his epic masterpiece Paradise Lost. It's also home to one of the largest collections of Miltonic first editions on public display, including many of his rare polemical pamphlets as well as the poetry for which he is more widely known.

The cottage is located in the Buckinghamshire village of Chalfont St. Giles, with the closest London Underground station located at Amersham, where regular buses connect with the Grade I listed building. Directions to the cottage can be found on their website.
