Pop Up Pop Up

As part of the programme for Open House London, artist Hilary Powell will be opening up the production line for the launch of her pop-up book Legend: An A-Z of the Lea Valley.

Housed in an industrial building in Stratford, with a working assembly line/public performance producing multiple pop-up books that chart an imaginative history of this changing area of the Lea Valley.

The book is inspired by the people and places, past and present of this urban territory and made with the collaboration of a team of 'pop-up apprentices.' This enterprise returns skilled craft and cultural production to a site of former manufacturing and invention and brings the work and wonder back to the word 'pop-up'.

Visit the pop-up factory and participate in the immersive theatre of making a pop-up book that itself constructs a fantastic and kinetic narrative of the area it's made in and about. You can find out more on the website popuppopup.net.

Hilary Powell will also showcase the book and organise a workshop at Urban Laboratory's exhibition, Cities Methodologies in October 2014.
