Join us for an informal lunchtime seminar on Tuesday 11 February to introduce Eduardo Canteros who will be based at the Bartlett's Development Planning Unit (DPU) and UCL Urban Laboratory as a Bartlett Visiting Research Fellow from now until the end of March.  Eduardo will speak about his project entitled 'Urban values from a grassroots organisation in urban regeneration: Pragmatic approach for understanding urban community rejection'.

This roundtable event is aimed primarily at the UCL staff and student community but others are welcome to attend on request, numbers permitting. A public seminar will also be organised at a later stage in the research.

Summary

The aim of this research is to identify and analyse urban values configured by community organisations when they complain and reject a particular urban regeneration project running in the borough of Hackney in the northeast of London. The seminar will review the theoretical and methodological research approach (emergence of public problems and claims), the similarities and differences with a research conducted in Santiago, Chile and a preliminary presentation about the research case in Hackney, London.

Eduardo, who will be supervised by Alex Apsan Frediani (DPU) and Ben Campkin (UCL Urban Lab), is a sociologist and social worker who has recently submitted his thesis in architecture and urban studies. He has research interests in urban collective action, citizen participation, community expertise, and micro sociological approaches. His project at UCL will use qualitative methods to examine the values around which communities organise when they critique and reject regeneration proposals. The project will build on research conducted in Chile and so will involve a comparative dimension.

Lunch will be provided. This session is only for the UCL community to attend. Please confirm attendence on Eventbrite here.

Please also join us the following day for another lunchtime seminar with Dr Beatrice de Carli.
