Equal by Design: Urban Lab Films presentation

Urban Lab Films supports the London public premiere of Equal By Design (2016), a short documentary exploring how the philosophy of Spinoza can help us think about economic equality, housing design, and the crisis in affordable housing.

Created by Peg Rawes (Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL) and Beth Lord (University of Aberdeen), in association with Lone Star Productions and funded by the AHRC, the film examines equality, wellbeing and the UK housing crisis with contributions from the architectural profession, national charities, journalism and academia.

Structured in 3 parts, the film shows how the 17thc. Dutch philosopher, Baruch Spinoza's theory of wellbeing and equality can be used to analyse housing and income inequalities, and how his ideas relate to post-war and current-day social housing design.

Equal By Design is funded as part of the AHRC project Equalities of Wellbeing, with additional funding from The University of Aberdeen and The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL.
