Join Hilary Powell (AHRC Fellow at the Bartlett and UCL Urban Lab Steering Committee member) on a scrap and salvage demolition tour in East London. Hilary collaborates with the materials and sites of demolition in the city to create images of their transformation. Come and learn how to explore and scavenge to develop your own sustainable artistic practice.

Organised as part of the UCL Art Museum's 'On tour' series, you will start by meeting at the Moka East café for a good view of the Olympic site, which has inspired Hilary's work, and a discussion on materials, building and demolition sites. Then you will go on a local scavenge walk through building sites in search of materials.

This follows on from Powell's curation of the Urban Lab Films series 'Demolition' in 2013/14, which focused on the over-looked, yet powerful place of demolition in the dynamics of past and present capitalist cities. During that series, she exhibited the film Deconstructing Demolition, which you can watch below.

The event is free, but places are limited. Booking required via Eventbrite.

Please note that this activity might not be suitable for certain people as it might involve walking on uneven ground. If you have specific access requirements, please email college.art@ucl.ac.uk before booking.
