100 Days of Leake Street at Cities Methodologies 2014

Get your hands dirty on our tour of Leake Street in Central London, known as the "training ground" for London's graffiti writers. Leake Street's spatial identity has been continually shaped by graffiti since 2008, when it became legal to paint there.

The tour, hosted by Sabina Andron, will contain information on ownership, legal graffiti sites, graffiti styles and histories. You will also be encouraged to use provided spray point to 'tag' a space in the tunnel.

Sabina Andron is a PhD candidate (Skin Deep: The Material Site Specificity of Urban Surface Inscriptions) at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. She is also a co-organiser of the Graffiti Sessions, a major three-day conference taking place in London this December - an attempt to challenge deep-rooted preconceptions that have until now limited the progress of both policy and practice related to street art and graffiti.

The meeting point is outside Exit 5 of Waterloo Rail station, on York Road. This is an outdoor event so participants are advised to dress adequately and come prepared for windy and/ or rainy conditions. The tunnel is mostly safe from rain but we will also be visiting areas where you might need an umbrella. You are also advised to wear comfortable clothing and account for the possibility of paint staining if you want to use provided spray paint.
