Why Does British Housing Come From Mars?

13.00-14.00 | LG15, 26 Bedford Way

With Maren Harnack | Department of Urban Planning,

HafenCity Universitat Hamburg

The seminar will compare the constraints and conditions which shape urban space and specifically housing production in Britain and mainland Europe, as well as exploring the underlying traditions in urban government, regulation, finance and other factors influencing the production of urban space.  Special attention will be given ot the role and interaction of different agents such as landowners, mortgage providers, property developers and homebuyers.  The seminar will conclude with some examples from Germany and Switzerland and link the physical outcomes of urban development to current theoretical debates.
