Strike for USS - UCL confirms salary deduction for strike action

12 February 2018

UCL has stated it will be deducting 1/365th of salary for each strike day (pro rata for fractional full time equivalent posts).

In agreeing to do this UCL is not unilaterally changing our contracts to oblige us to work at the weekend, but in the interests of good will and comparability with colleagues across the sector. By so doing UCL is not asking staff to work out of hours or at the weekend. (Aside from being a unilateral change in contract, such a move has significant equality impact implications.)

For part-time staff or those employed on a session by session basis (including PGTAs), deductions should be reduced pro rata to full-time staff for the days or hours they are on strike.

UCL has agreed to donate strike pay to the student hardship fund.
