Strike for USS - strikes are on! Plus 2nd March for Education and event diary

12 March 2018

Monday 12 March sees the resumption of our strike action with strikes continuing through Friday 16 March inclusive.

It is possible that negotiations this week may result in an offer that could end our dispute (see below) but we must not let the employers see any let-up in our strike action and commitment otherwise the pressure will be off, risking all we have achieved until now.

Last week picket lines were strongly supported (where departments are not closed) with strikers continuing to picket remote sites and multi-tenancy buildings on the periphery of the Bloomsbury campus. A more extensive programme of teach-outs were held in a number of locations. We continued with noon strike meetings to discuss the progress of our strike and, when we pulled pickets from picket lines to attend, at least the same number stayed behind. Our membership continues to growas our strike progresses.

Please join our picketing from 07:30 at the Quad entrance on Gower Street. The forecast is for warm, wet weather this week so please wrap-up warm with shower-proof outer layers.

Special mention goes to Anthropology who continue their friendly competition with SSEES for some of the most inventive puns of the strike thus far - please visit their picket lines

On Tuesday there will be a delegate meeting at our HQ to discuss the latest offer from the employers' representative body UUK.

Wednesday 14 March sees our second March for Education assemble from 12 noon, Malet Street, march to Parliament for a rally in Westminster Central Hall from 14:00. All welcome.

Please keep your non-union colleagues updated, encourage them to join in the action and of course to join UCU.
