SEMINAR 22nd August: Scinob Kuroki - Temporal Illusions in Touch

20 August 2013

10 am, Thursday 22nd August, UCL INSTITUTE OF COGNITIVE NEUROSCIENCE (17 Queen Square, see map).

Abstract:
One of the challenges in tactile system is integration of information from different kinds of channels (mechanoreceptor to afferent) distributed over the body surface. I will give an overview of our psychophysical research on this integration problem.
First topic is influence of uncertainty of stimuli on temporal perception. Estimation of interval between stimuli is affected by intensity, site, and frequency of the stimuli.
Second topic is about cross-channel interaction in "frequency " perception. When different frequency that are apart enough to activate different channels are simultaneously presented, a single "frequency" between the two frequencies is perceived just like color mixture.
