SEMINAR 9th April: Nick Taylor - Towards Sustainable Community Innovation

7 April 2014

Wednesday 9th April 2014 at 3pm in Gordon Sq 16-18, Room 101

Nick Taylor,  University of Dundee

Research into community technologies is often conducted through long-term studies ‘in the wild’, with significant participation of community members as co-researchers. Although there appears to be great potential for this research to have a sustained positive impact on participant communities, this is fraught with difficulties. This talk will introduce some of the issues involved in sustaining community technologies beyond the end of research projects, and suggest how new methods might begin to support sustainable, grassroots innovation in communities. Experiences from the Bespoke project demonstrate how citizen journalism can be used as part of a design process, enabling the community members to lead the process of communicating their own needs.
