'Research Methods for Human-Computer Interaction is a wonderful resource, for both students and practitioners, who need to take a scientific approach to the design of user interfaces. ' Dr Alan Blackwell, Reader in Interdisciplinary Design, University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory

We also offer a Tutorial based on the book, which has been delivered at HCI2008 and at UCL to the MSc HCI-E students.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research is best described as Cognitive Science applied to Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). My current focus is on:

  • how people learn to perform routine procedural tasks on interactive systems via exploration and instruction, and the effects of this learning on performance.
  • why people interleave tasks rather than perform then sequentially.
  • why  people sometimes make slip errors when performing well practiced routines such as data entry tasks.
  • understanding the cognitive and social aspects of gaming.
