Research Summary

My main research interests focus on social, environmental, behavioural, genetic and psychosocial determinants of chronic diseases and well-being in Central and Eastern Europe, i.e. in societies undergoing rapid social change. To study these phenomena, we have established a large population-based cohort study in Russia, Poland, Lithuania and Czech Republic, with approximately 35,000 participants (men and women) aged 45-69 years at baseline. The cohorts were first examined in 2002-2005 and re-examined in 2006-2008. Participants are prospectively followed up for mortality and cardiovascular morbidity.

Research Activities

  • Determinants of health and rapid social change
  • lifecourse epidemiology
  • social inequalities
