Language and Translation (Imperial College)
In this course you study aspects of linguistic theory which are relevant to translation, and also theoretical ideas about translation which have a direct impact on translation practice.
Topics include the relationship between language, thought and meaning; the different ways in which languages work; and the role played by context and textual conventions in communication and translation.
Assessment is based on an essay (50%) and a three-hour examination paper (50%).
