This MA course, “Translation from and into Spanish”, consists of practical translation exercises both from Spanish into English and from English into Spanish, covering a range of different texts and registers, including technical Spanish. It aims to develop linguistic and comprehension skills to a highly advanced level as well as enhance the understanding of the translation process. Students are assessed by course work (50%) and by a 3-hour exam (50%). The course work consists of EITHER a translation of a literary or historical text + commentary thereon OR the subtitling of a brief film. The 3-hour exam consists of advanced unseen translation exercises.
