Information for undergraduate students
Action checklist
As you start preparing yourself to join us at UCL there will be many things you need to think about. The checklist below will make sure you are fully prepared and have everything you need to start your programme.
Money Matters
- Calculate your budget to ensure you will have enough to cover all your expenses including your tuition fees.
- Open a bank account.
- Apply for your student loan(s) where applicable.
- Explore your options for additional financial support at: www.ucl.ac.uk/current-students/money
Accommodation
- Secure a place to live for when you arrive in September.
- Get a TV licence if you are planning to bring a television or to watch live programmes through your computer.
- Arrange insurance to cover your personal possessions.
Health and Welfare
- Ensure your vaccinations are up-to-date.
- If you are an international student studying for six months or more you are eligible for treatment by the National Health Service (NHS). If you are studying for less than six months you should take out insurance to cover any medical expenses for the duration of your stay.
- If you need to bring any medication with you, you should also carry a letter from your doctor (translated into English) explaining what your medicine is and what it’s for. If you are undergoing any long-term treatment you should also bring a letter from your doctor in case you need further treatment.
- If you have a disability, including dyslexia, ensure you contact UCL Student Disability Services to discuss the support available to you: www.ucl.ac.uk/disability
What else to bring with you
- Your passport (with visa if necessary) to prove your identity and eligibility to study in the UK when you enrol at UCL.
- Your offer of admission and acceptance letters.
- Proof of your finances and funding.
- Take a look at the UCL Student Residences information sent with your accommodation offer for ideas on what you need to bring with you.
