Progress update, 11 to 17 February 2012

By Tim Causer, on 17 February 2012

Welcome to the progress update for the period 11 to 17 February 2012. Last week we pointed that volunteers transcribed a greater number of manuscripts during those seven days, than any period since January 2011. Well, we can forget about that, as even more have been transcribed during this last week! A fine birthday present Jeremy, as Tuesday 15th was 264th anniversary of his birth.

2,779 manuscripts have now been transcribed, and increase of 72(!) on last week’s total. Of these, 2,546 (91%) are complete and locked, ready for uploading to the digital repository. This is a vast amount of work in such a short space of time, and we are enormously grateful to Transcribe Bentham volunteers for keeping up such a quick rate of transcription since the new year.

The detailed state of progress is as follows:

  • Box 2: 311 manuscripts transcribed of 532 (58%)
  • Box 27: 248 of 350 (70%)
  • Box 35: 228 of 439 (51%)
  • Box 50: 51 of 92 (53%)
  • Box 51: 46 of 940 (4%)
  • Box 62: 50 of 565 (8%)
  • Box 70: 165 of 250 (47%)
  • Box 71: 387 of 665 (58%)
  • Box 72: 238 of 664 (35%)
  • Box 73: 122 of 156 (78%)
  • Box 79: 75 of 199 (37%)
  • Box 95: 45 of 147 (30%)
  • Box 96: 513 of 539 (95%)
  • Box 97: 22 of 288 (7%)
  • Box 115: 240 of 307 (77%)
  • Box 139: 38 of 38 (100%)
  • Overall: 49% of the 5,580 manuscripts uploaded to the website have been transcribed thus far.

Boxes 2 and 71 were the most heavily transcribed – 8% of Box 71 alone was transcribed during the last week.

As ever, thank you to all of those who have taken part during the last week for your incredible efforts and contributions to Transcribe Bentham.
