You can use one of the following methods to find external telephone numbers:

On the Internet

• For UK Telephone Numbers

  You can look up UK telephone numbers, both business and residential, at:

• For International Telephone Numbers

  The following website gives access to a large number of telephone directory databases all over the world:
  http://www.infobel.com/teldir/default.asp

• Yellow Pages

  For UK Yellow Pages, the website address is:

  For international Yellow Pages use the site for international numbers above.

By Telephone

• UK Directory Enquiries

  In August 2003 the old BT directory enquiries service, 192, became obsolete. It has been replaced by a plethora of different companies offering directory enquiry services via numbers beginning 118.

  We bar access to these 118 services as they offer to connect the call, often at exorbitant rates. We would have no means of attributing calls connected in this way to the originator.

  Instead when you dial 9-192 or 9-118 you will be connected to a special service, organized by "The Number" (118118) which does not offer call connect. The operator does occasionally offer to connect the call but cannot do so.

  The cost of calls is 30p for a single enquiry.

  This option is not available if your extension is restricted to making local calls.

  Use the internet to look up numbers if you can. You will increase your chances of finding the correct number and it will not cost your department anything.

• International Directory Enquiries

  For international directory enquiries, ring UCL switchboard (100) who will obtain the BT International Directory Enquiries number for you. These calls cost £1.51 for 60 seconds, with a minimum charge of £1.51.
