MyPortfolio upgrade and new features

28 January 2013

MyPortfolio is the e-portfolio system currently being used at UCL. E-portfolios are very useful for a number of reasons, including gathering evidence of work, capturing reflections and sharing work with others. The MyPortfolio system includes features such as file storage and sharing, journals, plans and the CV builder. The E-Learning Environments (ELE) team recently upgraded MyPortfolio, adding a range of new features.

CPD

The CPD feature allows users to record Continuous Professional Development activities and the hours spent on them. This could include items such as communication skills, with activities recorded for this item including things like attending a workshop on presenting ideas or participating in a short course on communicating in the workplace.

Europass

The Europass is a standard CV format for many European employers, although it is not used in the UK. To prevent users having to duplicate information, any Europass fields that match those in the CV builder will be automatically populated. It includes additional fields that can be added to a MyPortfolio page on an individual basis and it is also possible to export it as a PDF or Word document.

Embed.ly

Embed.ly is available as a block for adding content to your page. It is a plugin that works to embed a wide range of external content from Flickr to Scribd and SlideShare to ISSUU. A full list of services can be found on the Embed.ly website.

Image gallery

Image gallery is a feature available when creating a page. It allows users to embed internal galleries of images (by linking to a folder of images in MyPortfolio) or external galleries via a web link.

Further information

If you wish to have a demonstration of MyPortfolio for your team, department or faculty then please contact the E-Learning Environments (ELE) team by email (ele@ucl.ac.uk) or by phone via extension 40820. You should also contact ELE if you have any questions about e-portfolios or external social media tools.
