An Introduction to Infectious Disease Genomics

18 June 2015, 9:00 am–5:30 pm

Event Information

Open to

All

Location

Royal Society, 6-9 Carlton House Terrace London SW1Y 5AG

The day will be pitched at 'beginner level' to give an idea of the topics and concepts covered in this area.

As infectious disease genomics becomes rapidly more mainstream and relevant to clinical practice and translational research, it is increasingly important for academics, clinical staff and public health professionals to understand what genomics can and cannot do, what its data requirements are, and how to critically appraise the outputs. This event will provide a taster of -

  • what infectious disease genomics in 2015 is all about
  • how it does and will impact on practice
  • the ethical concerns behind it
  • how the generated data can best be managed and who will own it?

There will also be case studies from researchers who are active in genomics from the point of view of bacteriology, virology and mycology.

Speakers will be Michael Head (IDRN and UCL), David Cleary (Southampton), Judy Breuer (UCL),Nick Loman (Birmingham), Dan Frampton (UCL), Johanna Rhodes (Imperial), Phillip Ashton (Public Health England), Tom Fowler (Genomics England), Claudio Koser (Cambridge). The speakers have internationally-recognised expertise and are members of national and international expert groups.
