Growing a new piece of city: Designing a legacy for 21st-century London
17th November 2009
The 2012 Olympics is profoundly altering the landscape of East London and will leave a significant urban design legacy for many years. The transformation of post-industrial spaces in London raises important questions about place, memory and public culture. This panel event explored these themes from a variety of perspectives and opened up debate about the future of London.
The panel speakers (biographies) were:
- Lara Almarcegui, artist (did not attend due to ill health)
- Eleanor Fawcett (London Development Agency)
- Andrew Harland (LDA Design)
- Tony Lloyd-Jones (University of Westminster)
- Jason Prior (EDAW)
- Iain Sinclair, writer
Chair: Professor Matthew Gandy (UCL Urban Laboratory)
Sponsored by the ODA, Urban Lab and UCL's Grand Challenge of Sustainable Cities.
