Materials and Tissue
Head of Research Department of Materials and Tissue: Professor Gordon Blunn
Advances in materials science have allowed us to enter a new phase in both our understanding and our use of implanted material. No longer are these materials inert substitutes. Increasingly the new materials interact with the body in a dynamic way. The Research Department of Materials and Tissue has a long tradition in the development and evaluation of these new materials in first-in-man studies.
The Research Department of Materials and Tissue is based within the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science (IOMS), which is located on the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (RNOH) site at the Stanmore campus, with geographically separate components across the site, including Biomedical Engineering (BME) and the Aspire Centre for Disability Science.
