Some details about the Online Student Support Project...
|
Who monitors the site and support group? ........................................................................................................................
This
site has been set up to provide
support for students at UCL. The information pages are structured around some of the issues that students may encounter while at at University. The site is moderated by a counsellor from the
UCL Student Psychological Services.
In a crisis, if you
need something other than online support see the Sources of Support page
in this website. You can also contact your GP or you can phone Gower
Place Practice on 020 7387 3645. If you would like to talk to someone
outside normal working hours, you can phone Nightline (student support
run by students) on 020 7631 0101 or the Samaritans on 08457 90 90 90.
Finally, if there is a medical emergency you can phone 999 or go to
your nearest hospital to the A&E department.
How did this site get started? ........................................................................................................................
This site was set up in 2003 by Ed Freeman, who was at that time a post-graduate clinical psychology student in UCL's Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. (He is now a clinical psychologist, working in the National Health Service.) It was desiged as part of his doctoral research project, which was supervised by Dr. Chris Barker and Dr. Nancy Pistrang, within the Psychological Helping and Support research group in UCL's Psychology Department. After Dr. Freeman qualified, the site was adopted by UCL's Student Psychological Services, with the support of the Widening Participation Unit.
We are very grateful to the counselling services at the University of Cambridge and the University of London's Royal Holloway College for allowing us to adapt some of the material on their own websites for use on our information pages.
