UCL Students Abroad

Your Study Abroad Journey

Your journey

With students now able to go abroad with so many UCL degree programmes, there is quite a range of variability in the requirements of the application process. To help make things clear for you, we've created a handy printable pdf guide to help you keep track of the process.

How to Apply: UCL Exchange

Applications for UCL Exchanges for Study Abroad in 2014/15 are now closed. The Study Abroad Team will not be able to accept any late applications. Candidates will be contacted in late January about the outcome of their application.
If your application is for a departmental placement or Erasmus placement which is handled by your department, please contact your Study Abroad Tutor for further information about deadlines and requirements for studying abroad.

Before beginning to apply, please check your eligibility for exchange options using the Options Guide - if you apply for a programme you are not eligible for, you will not be considered for that exchange and it may limit your application. Please also verify the application process for your chosen exchange; you will only need to submit an online form for UCL Exchange options and a limited number of departmental exchanges. This information can be found on your Departmental Information Sheet, which will be available at the Study Abroad Fair or online from 01 November 2013.

Study Abroad Approval Form

This form is available from your Study Abroad Tutor (or the Student Centre from 01 November 2013). The form should be completed by students in all departments except for SELCS, SSEES, Laws, Classics, Economics, History and ESPS. Ideally, it should be signed by your Study Abroad Tutor before you begin the online application, and should be handed into the Student Centre no later than 4pm on 29 November 2013.

The deadline to submit an application for a UCL Exchange placement is 4pm on 29 November 2013. Applications received after this deadline will not be accepted.

As part of your application you will be asked to provide:

  • Your personal details
  • A list of up to three institutions for which you would like to be considered
  • A personal statement
  • The name of one UCL tutor who will provide a reference for you - please make sure that you contact the tutor before submitting your application to confirm that they are willing to write the reference. References will be requested AFTER the application deadline.
  • A copy of your up-to-date CV
  • Evidence of your language skills (where appropriate).

You must give a choice of at least two institutions. Students are advised to only choose ONE high demand institution, and to prioritise that as option one. However, please remember that you should have thoroughly researched each of your three choices and you should be willing to accept any of your choices should your first not be available.

By submitting the application, you also agree to comply with the Terms and Conditions of Application.

Once you have read through the above and completed your research, you will complete the online application form.

Deadline For Applications

Applications must be submitted to the Study Abroad Team no later than 4pm on Friday 29 November 2013.

Applicants for UCL Exchanges must submit both parts of the application (online form and Study Abroad Approval Form) unless they are from one of the exempt departments above. If applications are late or incomplete, they will not be considered.

If successful, students will be notified in late January 2014.
