Vacancy: Project Co-ordinator

The Department of Science and Technology Studies wishes to appoint Project Co-ordinator to work on the ‘Emotions, Transformations, Restorations’ project being run jointly by STS and the Institute of Making. The successful applicant would be assisting the project leads, Dr Simon Werrett (STS) and Dr Leoni Hannan (History and Museums and Public Engagement) to set up and co-ordinate a series of workshops. The appointment will be part-time at approximately 135 hours over the period February – July 2014. Hours are negotiable, but the successful candidate would be expected to commence work immediately. 

STS Goes Dutch

Just before Christmas, Jack Stilgoe gave a talk at the launch of the Rathenau Institute's report on Geoengineering. The Rathenau institute are an independent Technology Assessment organisation that informs the Dutch government and parliament about emerging technology issues. Jack's talk was on 'geoengineering as collective experimentation', looking at the challenges of governing research in this controversial area. For those who speak Dutch, more information is here:

Dr Simon Werrett (UCL Science & Technology Studies), Leonie Hannan (UCL Museums and Collections), and Anna Maerker (History, King's College London) have been awarded a grant by UCL's institute of Making to run three workshops in 2014 on the theme of the history of materials. These workshops will use practical sessions to explore how people react to medical materials, fireworks, and restored books as a way to generate new historical questions.
