STS Big Idea Wins UCL Big Bucks
31 March 2012
Congratulations to Anish Vinayak (STS BSc student Year 2), who has won UCL's prestigious Bright Ideas Award 2012 and secured funding for his business proposal.
From the announcement:
HelpYouApply. Anish Vinayak, 2nd year BSc History, Philosophy and Social Studies of Science. £5,000.
Anish came up with the idea for HelpYouApply, a website that helps students fill in the applications for internships, year placements and graduate schemes, when he found himself filling in the same information over and over. He says: “The Bright Ideas award is not just another business plan competition. You are securing a business loan from professionals who believe your idea can work in the real world.” He will spend the money on building an online presence, securing the software to auto-fill all the forms, and paying employees when the company is fully operational towards the end of August.
Anish is the second STS student to earn such high esteem. In 2011, Raoul Tawadey won the competition for his business, Circalit. Raoul (2008 BSc Natural Sciences) had our HPSSS programme for one of his core streams.
"We're extremely proud of Anish," said STS's head of department Dr Joe Cain. "This is a great example of the ways our students work to connect life in the department with life after university. We're right along side."
