In May 2011, STS hosted Silvia De Bianchi’s workshop, “The Harmony of the Sphere: Kant and Herschel on the Universe and the Astronomical Phenomena”.

This included a concert, “Music of the Stars.” Sara Stowe and Matthew Spring worked through a selection of astronomy-related pieces ranging from medieval to modern. It featured voice, lute and harpsichord music by composers who, like John Dunstable, Vincenzo Gallileo and William Hershel, were also astronomers. Early works are juxtaposed with modern pieces inspired by thoughts of space and stars.

The recording and programme of the concert, as well as lecturecasts and slides from workshop presentations, now is available (link).
