Guest speakers at STS
28 November 2017
The STS Seminar series continues to go from strength to strength, with talks already appearing on the STS Youtube channel. In addition, we've had a range of visitors come to speak directly to our classes on the matters that concern them most.
Firstly, after the success of last year's visit, film-maker Carl Gierstorfer came to talk to our MSc students, and to also host a screening of his film 'We Want You To Live'.
Carl held a workshop on film and documentary making with a select group of our MSc students, during which he viewed a selection of short films made by the group, and provided advice on how they could improve their work. The film screening that evening hosted a near-full room of attendees from across UCL and further afield.
Later that week, Jamie Bartlett - Journalist, tech blogger and director of The Centre For The Analysis Of Social Media, spoke with Jack Stilgoe's class on Governing Emerging Technologies. Producer of BBC documentary 'Secrets of Silicon Valley', Jamie provided the class with his insight into developments in modern technology.
These are just a few of the planned visits for this month, as we are due to host Steve Crabtree (Editor of BBC's Horizon) as part of the Science, Media and Culture module on Weds 6th December, followed by BBC presenter Chris van Tulleken discussing his work as part of the Science Communication for Natural Sciences module on December 12th. If you're interested in attending either discussion, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
