My research focuses on surveillance and society issues. I have recently been involved in two EU-funded projects looking at issues of video surveillance and biometric technologies and their implications for privacy.
My postdoctoral research involved drawing together a social history of CCTV in the UK from the 1950s, with a particular emphasis on the role of the public and public engagement. My current research focuses on the ethical implications of new digital surveillance technologies. For the purpose of my current research I combine an ethics of technology approach with a real-time technology assessment.
