Professor Joe Cain's research interests include the history of evolutionary studies, natural history, and palaeontology. He also has expertise in Darwin and Darwinism as well as history of science in London, UK.

Professor Joe Cain was trained in the US, with BSc (zoology) and MA (history and philosophy of science) from University of Maryland, as well as PhD (history and philosophy of science) from University of Minnesota. After several years in the publishing industry, and a Visiting Professorship at University of Oklahoma, he arrived at UCL in 1996.
