audio samples: microphones

Voices Project. This page presents the results of tests combining recorders and microphones in typical recording configurations.

microphones
int mic internal microphone	set-up: sits on desk directly in front of reader, 24” from mouth. R-1: is set at right angle to speaker, so right mic is closer. set back from line of voice by 6”. PMD660: both mics on even line equidistant from mouth.
ext mic A Audio-Technica ATR97 omni directional boundary mic	set-up: directly connected to 3.5mm plug. Internal pre-amp on. Placed on table 26” from mouth. No extension cord.
ext mic B Audio-Technica AT-841a omni-directional boundary mic	set-up: sits on desk 26” away, pre-amp power on. Simulates interview setting. R-1: 5m cable XLR-3.5mm plug. PMD660: 5m cable XLR-XLR, phantom power is OFF, unless noted as ON.
ext mic C Radio Shack 33-1070D Shure omni-directional dynamic mic	set-up: on stand, 12” from mouth. R-1: 5m cable XLR-3.5mm plug. PMD660: 5m cable XLR-XLR, phantom power is ON or OFF.
ext mic D Audio-Technica AT-831b cardioid condenser lavaliere mic	set-up: on lapel, 10” from mouth, pre-amp power on. R-1: 5m cable XLR-3.5mm plug. PMD660: 5m cable XLR-XLR, phantom power is ON or OFF.
ext mic E Audio-Technica ATM10a omni directional condenser mic	set-up: on stand 12” from mouth, battery powered pre-amp on. R-1: 1m cable XLR-3.5mm plug. PMD660: 1m cable XLR-XLR, phantom power is ON or OFF.
