Dr Chiara Ambrosio
Lecturer in History and Philosophy of Science
I am a Lecturer in History and Philosophy of Science at University College London. My research interests include the relations between art and science in the 19th and 20th centuries, American Pragmatism and the philosophy of Charles Sanders Peirce, scientific discovery, and general issues in philosophy of science, with a particular focus on scientific representations.
If you want to know more about my current academic interests please visit my Research Interests page. My list of publications is found below. My 2013 Lunch Hour Lecture “Art for Science’s Sake” conveys the spirit of my research in an accessible and (hopefully!) entertaining way.
As part of my service to the profession, I am a member of the British Society for the History of Science, The Charles S. Peirce Society and the Society for Philosophy of Science in Practice.
At UCL, I regularly collaborate with the UCL Public Engagement Unit and the UCL Museums and Collections on a number of interdisciplinary projects. Outside UCL, I have joined a number of interdisciplinary projects at the intersections between art and science. These include The London Brain Project, the London Photography Collective, Pint of Science and Muso by Impropera. You will find more in my Impact, Engagement and Outreach page.
I am also the Cultures Pathway representative in the new UCL flagship degree, the BASc Arts and Sciences (BASc). More information about this exciting degree is available on the UCL BASc page.
