How to Apply

For those interested in applying to the department, this page provides the basic information. If you have questions that are not answered on this page, feel free to contact the Admissions tutor, Dr Bill MacLehose at sts-admissions@ucl.ac.uk .

Because very few schools teach Science and Technology Studies, we do not expect applicants to have any background in the field. Our students often have qualifications in a variety of subjects, including (but by no means limited to) the following: History, Philosophy, Sociology, Religious Studies, Economics, Government and Politics, Media Studies, Classics, Modern Languages, Psychology, English (or your first language). We do not require entry qualifications in science, although they are very welcome.

Applications can only be made through UCAS. Your personal statement should give some indication of your interest in the sciences, whether it be environmental politics, medical ethics, popular science, or whatever aspect(s) of the field interest you.

The type of student we encourage to apply is eager to learn through private reading and seminar discussion, can write clearly and think critically, and can approach a topic from more than one angle.
