This course runs in term 2, Tuesdays 3-4 and Fridays 1-2.

Assessment is by one essay and an exam.

This course explores the changing relationship between astrology, alchemy and magic from the ancient Greeks up to the present day. Topics include magic and science in the ancient world, in China, Islam and Africa, and in Europe from the middle ages to the present, including Christian attitudes and witchcraft.
