Pass It On Book Cycle

The Global Citizenship Study Abroad Programme's Action Group have launched their project for this academic year.

Their idea is a simple one: books contain knowledge essential to education and long-term self-sustainability, and therefore providing people who lack books with them is a direct step towards positive change. Through book donation boxes, advocacy rallies, direct-to-faculty publicity, and other action oriented endeavours, The Pass-It-On Book Cycle is collecting books to send to Tanzania, where they will stock otherwise book-barren schools and libraries.

Making Sense of the Financial Crisis

Students from the Global Citizenship Programme went to a special event at the National Theatre on Monday hosted by comedian Mark Thomas.

Mark Thomas: A Comic Tries to Understand the Economic Crisis was an entertaining and educational evening which dealt with a very serious topic - how did the recent banking collapse happen?  Thomas interviewed witnesses from the financial sector, academics and financial reform campaigners to try and make sense of the crisis.

A common theme from the evening's discussion was our role as citizens in shaping subsequent finance legislation. Should the banks work for themselves or society? Perhaps a possible topic for a Global Citizenship Action Group to work on in the future?
